The origins of our hut at Mt Col Rodella
Where the story that gave our hut its name began …
1800-1900
Friedrich August III, the King of Saxony (1865-1932), loved walking on the slopes between Mt Sassolungo/Langkofel and Mt Catinaccio/Rosengarten. During the First World War, he had Austro-Hungarian soldiers build a path to the Alpe di Siusi/Seiser Alm pasture to facilitate troop movements. The king’s path remained following the war, and its spectacular views and easy accessibility have made it one of the most well-known and popular trails in the Dolomites today. Our hut, where the king often stayed during his excursions, is named in his honour.
